Introduction to Windham, New Hampshire

Conveniently located just ten minutes east of Nashua, Windham, New Hampshire sits very close to the second largest city in the Granite State, but still maintains its quiet country appeal.  With easy access to Routes 93 and 101, Boston is a mere forty minutes to the south, the seacoast lies less than an hour east and recreation at New Hampshire's largest lake, Winnipesaukee, less than an hour to the north.  Windham's small town charm has attracted many new residents of late, increasing the town's population by more than four hundred percent over the past forty years, taking the town from a small village of 3000 in 1970 to today's population of almost 13,000 people.  An affluent community, Windham, New Hampshire is situated in the southwest corner of Rockingham County and offers residents an easy commute to Manchester, Nashua and Massachusetts.

The town of Windham originated in an area known as Nutfield which included modern-day Derry and Londonderry, New Hampshire.  First settled by Scottish immigrants in 1719, the town was finally chartered and incorporated by then-governor Benning Wentworth who, it is believed, named the town for a close family friend, Sir Charles Wyndham, Second Earl of Ergemont.  Primarily a farming community until World War II, Windham has opened its doors to commercial business and industry, albeit in controlled numbers.  This, coupled with the town's master plan for future growth, ensures Windham residents that the town is ready for the future while remembering its past.

A more convenient location there couldn't be.  Windham, New Hampshire is perfectly located for quick and easy access onto and off from the major highways leading anywhere you might want to go.  Route 28 in neighboring Salem provides most any shopping experience you could desire including all the chain stores, restaurants and the Rockingham Mall.  Well-known Canobie Lake Amusement Park is ten minutes from the center of Windham and horseracing is a scant twenty.  If the outdoors is your thing, Windham offers municipal parks, tennis courts, biking and hiking trails, fishing and boating and several golf courses.  There are youth activities available for children including soccer, basketball, baseball and hockey.  Windham is also home to its own fine restaurants as well as museums, and theaters.  There's something for everyone in Windham.
