Originally known as part of Nottingham, Massachusetts, the town split off, naming itself Nottingham West. Because there was already a town in New Hampshire called Nottingham, just to the northeast, residents petitioned to change the name in 1830. The reason for choosing the name Hudson is a mystery, though some believe it was named after the Hudson River while others feel it was named after English explorer Henry Hudson. The debate continues to this day. Hudson has much to offer youngsters, from youth groups to extracurricular athletics such as baseball, basketball, football and soccer. Nearby golf courses and municipal parks give everyone a chance to enjoy the great outdoors. Hudson also has fishing, swimming, bicycling and tennis facilities. Only 36 miles from Boston and 22 miles from Manchester, New Hampshire, Hudson is the perfectly located southern New Hampshire town. |
